Jess Kerr and Lauren Down could make their T20I debuts for the White Ferns at the tournament
Lea Tahuhu has returned to New Zealand’s squad for the T20 World Cup.
In 2019, Amy Satterthwaite revealed that she would step away from cricket to have her first child with Tahuhu. The baby, Grace, arrived in early January, with the fast bowler then skipping the subsequent ODI series against South Africa, which comes to an end on Thursday at Seddon Park.
“I’m very excited to be back around the White Ferns group,” she said.
“It’s been a whirlwind last couple of weeks - becoming a mum for the first time and everything that goes with it.
“I’m grateful of Amy’s support back home and can’t wait to get stuck in at training ahead of the T20 series against South Africa.”
Head coach Bob Carter added: “It’s great to have her raw speed and experience back in the group.
“Lea offers us plenty with the ball and will no doubt hurry a few batters up, especially in Australia on their fast, bouncy surfaces.
“However, first up we have to contend with South Africa, who have already proven in the ODI series they are up for the challenge over here.”
Tahuhu’s addition is the only change to the squad from the 50-over games. South Africa have won the first two, with New Zealand’s bowling noticeably lacking in penetration. They have taken just five wickets in the two games so far.

The makeup of the World Cup group also means that Jess Kerr and Lauren Down could make T20I debuts in Australia. Kerr will join her sister, Amelia, in the 15-strong squad.
“It’s an exciting time for the younger players in the squad but, in saying that, we believe they can add something to the group,” added Carter.
“We endeavour to learn more about them in the coming series against South Africa.”
Sophie Devine will captain the side, while Suzie Bates is the top run-scorer in the competition’s 11-year history.
“We have a balanced side with plenty of international experience within,” Devine said.
“It’s up to us to put our best foot forward in these five T20s against South Africa and hone our game before another shot at a World Cup.”
