Danni Wyatt

There is a chaos about the manner in which Wyatt takes on the bowlers – a reckless abandon to it all that, when successful, gives England an invaluable flyer

Ten years after making her international debut for England against India as a 19-year-old, Danni Wyatt has become one of England’s most important players, certainly in T20 cricket.

There is a fearlessness about the way in which she goes about her business that, when successful, gives England an invaluable flyer.

The bubbly 28-year-old struck her first ODI ton during England’s series against Pakistan in December 2019 and beforehand enjoyed a fruitful Women’s Big Bash campaign with Melbourne Renegades.

It is the way she has always played; in the 2015 Women’s County Championship, she scored her runs at a strike-rate of 136.13.

Across 101 T20Is to January 28, 2020, Wyatt had averaged just 21.05.

However, it is about more than the runs she scores – rather, the way and the rate at which they come.

The top run-scorer in the 2019 Kia Super League by a distance of 65 runs, her strike rate of 166.42 was comfortably the best of any player to score more than 20 runs.

She remains a useful – if occasional – off-spinner, though she experienced trouble with her action between 2013 and 2016.
