Umesha Thimashini made her T20I debut against South Africa in February 2019 and had played in five T20Is as of January 30, 2020.
Although her T20I career so far has been somewhat inconsistent, she has shown great potential, especially in the 2019 South Asian Games.
In the first match of the competition against Bangladesh, she scored 56 not out off 49 balls - including five fours and four sixes - and returned bowling figures of 1-13.
Her stand-out bowling performance was in the final where she recorded figures of 4-8 off her four overs, including two maidens.
She performed well for Sri Lanka Emerging Women before being included in the squad for Sri Lanka’s T20I series against England in March 2019.
The series was disappointing for Thimashini as she did not bowl and only scored 14 runs in the series.
However, she should take confidence in her outstanding performances in the recent South Asian Games and she will hope to make her T20 World Cup debut in the upcoming tournament.
