Aged just 21, Tumi Sekhukhune is one of South Africa’s great young talents.

After impressing for the South Africa Emerging side and Northerns she made her T20I and ODI debuts in 2018.

In February 2019, Cricket South Africa named her as one of the players in the Powerade Women’s National Academy intake for 2019.

A few months later in August 2019, she was named the International Women’s Newcomer of the Year at Cricket South Africa’s annual award ceremony.

2019 was a very good year for the promising young talent as in September 2019 she was also named in the Devnarain XI squad for the inaugural edition of the Women’s T20 Super League.

She has now made 29 appearances for her country, 17 of them being T20Is in which she has taken 13 wickets at an average of 25.15, an economy rate of 6.41 and with best figures of 2-27.

For many years, South Africa have taken pride in balancing their team with youth and experience and this has given Sekhukhune an opportunity to make a name for herself.

During training camps she has focused on her consistency as well as bowling to a particular field.

She has also learned how to adapt her game to fit into South Africa’s aggressive approach towards the T20 format. With her eyes set on a starting place in South Africa’s side, Australia might well be the place for this youngster to shine.
