Kumari is known for her ability to keep the run-rate down, putting pressure on the batsmen
Born: October 5, 1990
Role: Left-hand bat, slow left-arm orthodox
Sugandika Kumari is one of Sri Lanka’s most consistent spin bowlers. Since her debut against Pakistan in January 2015 - up until January 30, 2020 - she has played in 34 T20Is.
She is known for her ability to keep the run-rate down, putting pressure on the batsmen.
In her T20I career to January 2020, she had taken 24 wickets at an average of 27.83, with an economy rate of 6.04 and best figures of 3-17.
She was included in Sri Lanka’s squad for the 2018 T20 World Cup in St Lucia and so will know the expectations on her team in Australia this year, and she will be able to guide those around her who have not experienced a high-pressure tournament before.
Kumari has represented Basnahira Province Women, Central Province Women and Sri Lanka Army Sports Club. Despite her mixed form in recent T20I matches, she should take great confidence that selectors have continued to include her for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
She played in Sri Lanka’s recent T20I and ODI series away to Australia so will know the conditions well and will hope to put some strong performances in for her team.
