The 20-year-old left-arm spinner has become one of the premier bowlers in the women’s game.
With an impeccable action, a terrific measure of control and the ability to vary her pace, she has become one of the most important members of this England side within four years of her international debut as a 17-year-old.
By then, she had already established herself as a talent on the domestic scene; Ecclestone learnt her cricket at Alvanley Cricket Club in Helsby, where she represented Cheshire before being snapped up by Lancashire.
Ecclestone’s ability was clear early on; she was fast-tracked through England’s age-group sides into the Academy, where she impressed once again.
Mark Robinson took the plunge in 2016, adding the teenager to his squad for the T20I series against Pakistan.
She – nor England – have looked backed since.
Even in a challenging year for the national side, she was a shining light.
Alex Hartley, another left-arm spinner who effectively lost her place to Ecclestone, told The Cricketer that her successor was “an unbelievable cricketer, who will play for England for the next 15 or 20 years if she wants to”.
