The youngest person to play a T20I for India, Verma initially came onto the scene during the women’s exhibition match series towards the end of the 2019 IPL, playing for the Velocity team in a three-way competition featuring some of the world’s top players.
While her numbers hardly set the world alight during the tournament, she caught the eye as a 15-year-old, playing alongside Mithali Raj, Danni Wyatt and Hayley Matthews.
The initial signs were encouraging enough for a maiden international call-up.
And while she began with a duck on debut against South Africa, there have been two half centuries in her eight knocks since.
Verma spent her childhood often disguising herself as a boy, with there being no girls’ academy at which to train.
She grew up idolising Sachin Tendulkar, while her attacking instincts have been aided by watching AB de Villiers.
