Sixteen-year-old Richa Ghosh is the only new member of India’s squad, with the youngster never having represented her country until now.
The Bengal-born batsman impressed in the recent Challenger Trophy, a one-day domestic tournament.
Ghosh first picked up a bat as a four-year-old, following in the footsteps of her father, who umpired.
She soon joined her local club, Bagha Jatin, where she was the only girl.
However, her weight of runs and obvious ability led to a call-up to Bengal’s senior side.
Though she grew up idolising Sachin Tendulkar, she has been helped at club level by Jhulan Goswami, while she hails from the same hometown as Wriddhiman Saha.
