Masabata Klaas, although not as experienced as other bowlers in the South African attack, adds another dimension to the team.

Purveyor of nagging lines and lengths, in her 35 T20I matches (as of January 20, 2020) she has taken 18 wickets at an economy rate of 7.56 with best figures of 2-17.

Having made her T20I debut in 2010, Klaas has not been a regular starter for South Africa but she has made valuable contributions which have secured her place in the squad for this tournament.

Klaas stepped away from international cricket in 2013 to look after her daughter, who was born that year.

For two years she continued to play provincial cricket for Free State before finally forcing her way back into the South Africa team in 2015, and has since earned a national contract.

Klaas has enjoyed more success in ODIs than the shortest format and since her debut against Sri Lanka in 2010 she has played 44 times, taking 34 wickets at an economy rate of 4.78 and with best figures of 3-27.

In May 2019, in the second ODI against Pakistan, Klaas became the 10th bowler and second South African - after Dane Van Niekerk - to take a hat-trick in a women’s ODI match.

There is no doubt that Klaas will be a valuable asset to her team and will be a bowler to look out for in the competition.
