Leigh Kasperek has developed into one of the finest off-spinners in the women’s game.
Born on the other side of the world in Edinburgh, Scotland, the 27-year-old has gone on to become a central figures in New Zealand’s national side.
Initially, she played age-group cricket for Scotland and would go on to represent the senior side as a 15-year-old.
However, after spending a campaign with Wellington’s women’s side – albeit without making any great impact – she moved to Otago, where she began to flourish.
A call-up to the national side followed and she made her debut in Bangalore against India.
Three years later, come the end of the 2017/18 season, she was ranked second in the ICC’s bowler rankings.
She has shown her worth with the bat as well, making an ODI century against Ireland – her hundred went somewhat under the radar as Amelia Kerr, at the other end, struck an unbeaten 232.
