With England having lost the experienced heads of Jenny Gunn, Laura Marsh and Sarah Taylor in recent months, Winfield's calm and composed demeanour is a major asset
Born: August 16, 1990
Role: Right-hand bat, wicketkeeper
A member of England’s World Cup-winning side in 2017, this 29-year-old daughter of Yorkshire has been part of the national setup for some time.
Initially called up to the Academy side in 2013 after impressing for her home county, she made her ODI bow just months later against Pakistan.
While her first outing came batting at No.7, she quickly moved to the top of the order as England toured West Indies soon afterwards.
In a sense, that move sums up her international career to date – she has not necessarily nailed down a single role, though she was a key member of the side that won the 2017 World Cup.
However, since the emergence of Amy Jones as a top-class batsman and the huge growth in Tammy Beaumont’s game, Winfield has been subjected to more of a bit-part role.
The T20 format, though, is where she appears most at home, and she has captained Yorkshire Diamonds in the Kia Super League with some success.
Under Danielle Hazell at Northern Superchargers in The Hundred, she is expected to take on the skipper’s role once again.
