Just 19 years of age but already a vital member of the national side, Jemimah Rodrigues’ story begins in Mumbai, where she would train alongside her brother as a 10-year-old.
Briefly, it looked like it might end there – she was struck on the head in a net session and asked not to come back by coaches.
Four months later, however, she would star in boys’ Under-10 tournament.
Since then, the classy batsman’s trajectory has only been in one direction.
There was an international debut in February 2018 against South Africa, followed shortly afterwards by an ODI bow against Australia.
Her story is still young; she has made nine fifties for India, though has not yet reached three figures in blue.
She did, however, record a landmark century in the Kia Super League.
Her unbeaten 112 against Southern Vipers for Yorkshire Diamonds led her side to a final-ball win.
It was a coming-of-age tournament to an extent; only Danni Wyatt made more runs in the competition.
