Heather Knight

A batsman of some immense talent – she holds a Test 157, Knight's T20I record is curiously underwhelming; she has passed 50 just once in her 66-game career ahead of the 2020 tournament

England’s Plymouth-born captain stepped into some of the biggest shoes in the history of the women’s game when she replaced Charlotte Edwards as captain in 2016.

Having captained both Berkshire and Hobart Hurricanes in the Women’s Big Bash by then, it was – at least – a natural progression for the right-handed batsman, whose off-spin has often gone underused in her time in charge.

A year after taking the reins, any doubts around her leadership were well and truly quashed; she lifted the World Cup in 2017 on a famous afternoon at Lord’s.

A player of some immense talent – she holds a Test 157, an innings that effectively regained the Ashes for England in 2013.

Curiously, Knight’s T20I record is somewhat underwhelming; she has passed 50 just once in her 66-game career.

Before she opted to study biochemical sciences at Cardiff University, the England skipper actually turned down a place at Cambridge.
