England’s Plymouth-born captain stepped into some of the biggest shoes in the history of the women’s game when she replaced Charlotte Edwards as captain in 2016.
Having captained both Berkshire and Hobart Hurricanes in the Women’s Big Bash by then, it was – at least – a natural progression for the right-handed batsman, whose off-spin has often gone underused in her time in charge.
A year after taking the reins, any doubts around her leadership were well and truly quashed; she lifted the World Cup in 2017 on a famous afternoon at Lord’s.
