Hugely talented in both areas of the game, Sharma promises to be a big name on the global circuit for some time to come
Born: August 24, 1997
Role: Left-hand bat, offbreaks
The holder of the third-highest individual score in women’s ODI history, Deepti Sharma is some player at just 22 years of age.
A cricket lover by the age of nine, she made her international debut at the age of just 17 against South Africa in Bangalore.
Though she was dismissed cheaply, she took the wicket of Mignon du Preez in in 10-over spell of considerable promise.
By now, Sharma had become an off-spinner; she began life as a medium-pacer.
Short in stature, it was a move that made sense.
She has kicked on immensely as a finger-spinner, already having taken more than 100 wickets for India.
It is with the bat, however, where she has made her biggest mark to date.
Her 188 against Ireland came alongside Puram Raut in a partnership worth 320 runs – comfortably the greatest for any wicket in women’s ODIs.
Hugely talented in both areas of the game, Sharma promises to be a big name on the global circuit for some time to come.
