Only four players in the history of the women’s game have taken more T20I wickets than the 90 taken by Anya Shrubsole: Anisa Mohammed, Ellyse Perry, Nida Dar and Shabnim Ismail.
Rewind three years, of course, and it was her performance in front of a packed house at Lord’s that hauled England to their last global crown – the 2017 World Cup final victory over India.
Even as she struggled for form during the 2019 Ashes series and then again, at times, against Pakistan in Malaysia, Shrubsole’s ability to swing the ball prodigiously into the right-hander has never been in doubt.
She remains just 28 years old and a taker of 197 international wickets.
Shrubsole still retains the best bowling average and strike rate of the top 20 wicket-takers in women’s T20I history.
The daughter of Ian, who played Minor Counties cricket for Wiltshire, Shrubsole’s World Cup heroics saw her become the first female player to appear on the front cover of the Wisden Almanack.
