Captain Chamari Atapattu is one of Sri Lanka’s most successful and experienced players.
As of January 30, 2020 she had played 81 T20Is and 84 ODIs for Sri Lanka as well as having a wealth of experience in international franchise cricket.
In her 81 T20Is to that point she had scored 1,492 runs at an average of 19.12, a strike rate of 94.97, with a high score of 113 and 24 wickets (with best figures of 3-17).
Atapattu is well-known for her aggressive batting style and she leads from the front as one of Sri Lanka’s opening batsmen.
She was the first Sri Lankan woman to pass 1,000 runs in T20Is and is also the leading runscorer for Sri Lanka in both ODIs and T20Is.
Atapattu captained Sri Lanka in the 2018 T20 World Cup, so has experience of being front and centre in high-pressure tournaments.
In the first T20I of the series against Australia in September 2019, Atapattu scored her first century in T20I cricket - 113 off 66 balls with 12 fours and six sixes at a strike rate of 171.21.
She has not only been successful in T20I cricket. Atapattu has also represented Melbourne Renegades in the WBBL and both Yorkshire Diamonds and Loughborough Lightning in the KSL.
In her 16 matches for Melbourne Renegades she has scored 196 runs with a high score of 42 and best bowling figures of 2-6.
Atapattu’s stand-out season in the KSL was in 2017 for Yorkshire Diamonds, when she made 135 runs in five matches.
