The only Bangladeshi with a T20I hundred to his name, Tamim Iqbal has always been considered his country’s most explosive batsman. As a veteran of over 300 international matches for Bangladesh he is now one of their most experienced and dependable performers in all formats.
Tamim has scored over 12,000 runs across Tests, ODIs and T20Is in an international career that has lasted over a decade, but he first showed signs of his potential in late 2005 for Bangladesh’s under-19 side.
A score of 112 from 71 balls against an England under-19s bowling attack which would go on to make more than 400 county appearances helped earn him his senior debut less than two years later.
Tamim played in four ODIs before starring at the 2007 World Cup as a 17-year-old, being one of three players to hit half-centuries as Bangladesh recorded a famous five-wicket victory over India in the group stages.
His debut Test against New Zealand yielded a pair of fifties and he made his first international hundreds in ODIs against Ireland in 2008 and in Tests against West Indies a year later.
Bangladesh’s leading run-scorer in all formats and the player with the most hundreds in their history, Tamim is always a dangerous player that opposition sides need to get out early.
