Soumya Sarkar is an elegant middle order batsman who has impressed so far for Bangladesh in his international career, as well as being a regular in the Test and T20 teams.
Sarkar shone for Bangladesh’s under-19s at the 2012 World Cup when he scored 73 against an Australian side containing six future internationals and it took him less than a year to get his senior call-up, being included in a T20I squad to face New Zealand but not playing.
In 2014, Sarkar eventually made his debut and scored his maiden century in a man-of-the-match performance against Pakistan the next year when he made 127 not out.
A useful medium pacer, Sarkar has been used sparingly as a bowler in his international career so far and only has six wickets in total.
However, he has first-class five-fers to his name and a healthy economy rate in List A cricket so perhaps a few more overs for Bangladesh will be on the cards in the near future.
