After a spell out of the side, Mithun’s domestic runscoring exploits earned him an ODI recall in 2018 and he has made it count

A wicketkeeper-batsman as a youngster, the dominance of Mushfiqur Rahim and the rise of Liton Das have forced Mohammad Mithun (a stronger batsman than a gloveman anyway) to completely focus on his runscoring in order to hold down a regular place in recent Bangladesh squads.
A first-class average of 50.81 and three centuries in the 2011-12 season were good enough to earn Mithun a Bangladesh A call-up for their 2011 tour of the Caribbean.
Then, after only being outscored for his team by Tamim Iqbal in the 2013-14 T20 Cup, he was given the chance to replace an injured Mushfiqur behind the stumps against Sri Lanka but was dismissed first ball on debut.
An ODI debut against India followed and, without the gloves, top-scored with a 26-run cameo – nearly 45 per cent of Bangladesh’s total runs as they slumped to an embarrassing 58 all out.
After a spell out of the side, Mithun’s domestic runscoring exploits earned him an ODI recall in 2018 and he has made it count.
Now with good chuck of appearances in white-ball cricket under his belt, Mithun made his Test debut against Zimbabwe and scored a second-innings half-century.
