One half of Bangladesh’s most successful opening partnership in Test and ODI cricket alongside Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes is a more sedate partner for the explosive Tamim.

Together they broke a 55-year-old Test record set by the great Colin Cowdrey and Geoff Pullar when they shared a 312-run second-innings opening partnership against Pakistan in which Tamim scored 206 and Kayes 150.

Having made his international debut in 2008 off the back of a strong National Cricket League season where he scored 600 runs in 18 innings, Kayes has ended up missing more ODIs than he has played in and been readily dropped in Tests despite his record alongside Tamim.

2010 saw him become Bangladesh’s most prolific ODI run scorer with 867 runs in the calendar year but his form dropped off and by 2012 he had been dropped.

Despite a lack of consistency at times, Kayes is now back as a regular in ODI cricket at No.3
