The tall seamer generates terrific pace and substantial bounce from his terrific height and is more than capable of hurrying a batsman
Born: November 4, 1994
Role: Left-hand bat, right-arm fast
Standing at over six-foot-eight, Billy Stanlake’s height and express 90mph-plus pace make him an incredibly potent weapon for Australia.
Injuries have hampered Stanlake’s career at times, but it is a measure of his physical gifts and great potential that his ODI debut in January 2017 came with only two first-class, four List A and seven Big Bash appearances to his name.
With an excellent T20 record, the 24-year-old has earned IPL contracts with both Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
His best performance to date came against Pakistan at Harare where Stanlake dismissed Mohammad Hafeez, Fakhar Zaman, Hussain Talat and Sarfaraz Ahmed as he took 4-8, the most economical figures by an Australian in T20Is.
Stated as having the potential to “be one of the all-time great fast bowlers” by Ricky Ponting, Australian coach Justin Langer has made it clear he wants Stanlake as a key member of his side in all formats but, having played the last of his two first-class games in 2015, the giant pacer will need to put an end to his fitness concerns to achieve his full potential.
