The race to reach the top four of the IPL 2020 playoffs continues to become interesting as days go by. After Chennai beat Kolkata Knight Riders to register their 5th win of the season, the possible line ups for the last four have become clearer. Mumbai Indians became the first team to seal a place in the last four. This means that there are now three places up for grabs. Mathematically, CSK cannot make it to the top four, which leaves six sides fighting for the remaining three places. This also means that the Net Run Rate (NRR) will play a large part in determining which teams make it to the knock out stages.

Possibilities of making it to the top four

Kolkata Knight Rider's loss to Chennai Super Kings reduced their chances of making it to the knock-out to 5.5%. However, this does not take into consideration net run rates. However, they have a 25% possibility of finishing fourth, but their poor NRR may not be enough. Chennai's win over Kolkata Knight Riders means they have a 50-50 chance of avoiding finishing bottom of the table. Kolkata Knight Raiders loss means that King XI now have a 9% chance of making it to the knockouts even without the help of NRR. King XI have a three in four possibilities of finishing in any top-four position. The loss of Kolkata also boosted the chances of Sunrisers Hyderabad finishing fourth to one in four. Rajasthan Royals chances of finishing the fourth stand at 5.5%, while they also have a one in four chance of finishing in third place. Mumbai Indians can only finish either in 1st or 2nd position. Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals are assured of finishing in the top four. Punjab, Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai may finish at the top tied on 16 points. The season so far

This season's tournament has been fascinating and competitive. Kings XI Punjab has now made it five wins in a row to makes things even more interesting. The loss of Kolkata on Thursday shook things on the table, giving the likes of Hyderabad and Punjab a chance to make it to the top four. This year's breakout teams have been Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Delhi Capitals. While Mumbai has already qualified, out of the six teams that are in the running, Delhi and Bangalore are the most likely to seal two of the remaining 3 spots. Kings XI Punjab is the prime contender to seal off the last spot although things could take a drastic change. This means that the remaining 7 matches of the IPL will be very intriguing and dramatic. You can expect all the teams involved to give their everything as they aim to make it to the last four.
