Catch up with all the latest ahead of the Headingley Test
It was a case of close but not quite close enough for England at Lord's as they missed out on the chance to level the series against Australia following the visitors' win at Edgbaston.
However, the third Test at Headingley, the first Ashes match at the ground for ten years, represents an opportunity for Joe Root's men to build on the momentum gained at the home of cricket and record that win, although their Ashes record in Leeds is slightly inferior to the Baggy Greens.
Australia have won nine of the 24 Ashes Test matches played there, while England have emerged triumphant in seven. Nevertheless, the momentum appeared to shift to England in London despite the draw so it promises to be another compelling and enthralling encounter.
FIRST TEST: Edgbaston, Birmingham (Thursday, August 1 - Monday, August 5) - Australia won by 251 runs
SECOND TEST: Lord's, London (Wednesday, August 14 - Sunday, August 18) - Match drawn
THIRD TEST: Headingley, Leeds (Thursday, August 22 - Monday, August 26)
FOURTH TEST: Old Trafford, Manchester (Wednesday, September 4 - Sunday, September 8)
FIFTH TEST: Kia Oval, London (Thursday, September 12 - Monday, September 16)
Can Ben Stokes build on his century at Lord's?
After the disaster at Edgbaston, optimism and hope have been restored to the England camp after the encouraging performance at Lord's, which may have not yielded the desired result but demonstrated the path going forward.
There were a greater number of contributions with the bat at the home of cricket compared with Birmingham, with Jonny Bairstow starting to repair a bit of the damage to his Test statistics recently with a half-century, while Rory Burns was also impressive with a fifty in the first innings.
However, Ben Stokes stole the show with the bat for England with a a brilliant 115 to set up the chance of victory before Joe Root decided to declare.
The man of the moment with the ball at Lord's was Jofra Archer after his searing pace put Australia batsmen to the test with some devilish short-pitch bowling, which saw him clock 96.1mph at one stage.
With conditions likely to favour fast bowlers at Headingley, England will fancy their chances with Archer and Stokes both in the mood to inflict further damage and England's middle order starting to rediscover some fluency.
If you looking for a flutter, there are as always plenty of markets available.
The bookmakers largely favour England, especially given recent injury news regarding Steve Smith. You can find the home side available at a best-price 8-13 from Ladbrokes. Bookies can hurry up to learn about new betting offers available online.
Huge odds are on offer for Australia, with Unibet pricing the tourists at 11-5.
Looking at the series, a 3-1 series win for Australia has odds of 9-2, whereas 3-1 in England's favour is 11-2. A drawn series at 2-2 is priced at 7-2 while an Australian 2-1 win is priced at 6-1.
England have named the same 12-man squad for the Headingley Test match as they did for the Lord's draw.
That news would have come as a relief to the likes of Jason Roy and Joe Denly, who have been struggling to make runs at the top of the order and in the middle order respecitvely. It remains to be seen however whether England will tinker with the positions of the various batsmen.
Sam Curran was the only member of the squad not to feature at Lord's but he has also been included, while Jofra Archer will once again spearhead the England attack after a stellar Test debut at Lord's.
Jimmy Anderson, meanwhile, has been considered not fit enough for selection as he continues his recovery from a calf injury, but the seamer will play for Lancashire's 2nd XI against Leicestershire in a three-day friendly from Tuesday in a bid to prove his fitness.
England say he will "be assessed on an ongoing basis", with the hope that he is fit enough to be available for the fourth Test at Old Trafford.
England squad: Joe Root (c), Jofra Archer, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Stuart Broad, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Joe Denly, Jack Leach, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes
Steve Smith has been ruled out of the third Test match
Australia were well and truly made to work hard for the draw at Lord's, and the tourists have a number of issues to solve ahead of the third Test in Leeds.
The biggest blow to Tim Paine is that Steve Smith has been ruled out of featuring at Headingley after suffering a blow to the head from a Jofra Archer bouncer. The 30-year-old did return to the field in the first innings before being dismissed for 92, but did not participate in his side's second innings survival success.
In Smith's absence, Marnus Labuschagne, the first ever concussion substitute, battled hard and his half-century will give the tourists hope that they can cope without their batting talisman, given that David Warner is still horribly out of form and Cameron Bancroft and Usman Khawaja have yet to convince in English conditions in the Test arena.
Justin Langer's more positive headache will be the selections in the fast bowling department, with Mitchell Starc the only quick not to have played in the series so far and his selection at Leeds far from certain.
Josh Hazlewood was brought in for James Pattinson at Lord's and both fast bowlers will be in contention once again.
Pat Cummins has been the standout bowler for the visitors, while Peter Siddle has also featured in the two Test matches so far.
Australia squad: Tim Paine (c, wk), Cameron Bancroft, Pat Cummins, Marcus Harris, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Michael Neser, James Pattinson, Peter Siddle, Steven Smith, Mitchell Starc, Matthew Wade, David Warner
Will Mitchell Starc make his Ashes 2019 bow in Leeds?
There will be plenty of cloud around for day one at Headingley, and that is set to be the dominant theme with days three and four also due to see heavy overcast conditions.
There are likely to be sunny intervals on days two and five but fortunately there is little sign of rain about, with temperatures set to be in the early twenties.
The games will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Cricket (Sky 404, Virgin 504, TalkTalk 405) in the UK, while radio commentary will be provided by Test Match Special on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra (DAB, online via the BBC Sport website and through the BBC Sounds app).
