Birmingham Bears lose Ashton Agar for rest of T20 Blast campaign with ankle injury

The Australian spinner suffered a fracture and ligament damage while warming up over the weekend and will miss the remaining eight matches of the campaign

Ashton Agar will miss the rest of the Birmingham Bears' T20 Blast campaign after suffering a double ankle injury.

The 25-year-old suffered a small fracture and ligament damage to his right ankle while warming up prior to the clash with Yorkshire on Sunday.

Agar will return to Australia to begin his rehabilitation and is unavailable for the final eight matches of the Bears' campaign, starting against Leicestershire on Wednesday.

"We’re obviously very disappointed to lose Ash after he made such a great impression on and off the field," said Warwickshire sport director Paul Farbrace. "We all wish him the very best."

Having played for Middlesex in last year's competition, Agar made four outings for the Bears before being struck down by injury, taking three wickets and scoring 95 runs.

The Bears are looking into the possibility of enlisting a replacement for Agar but face four more North Group matches over the next 10 days.

Following the visit to the Foxes, Birmingham host Notts before back-to-back clashes with Lancashire home and away.

They currently occupy the fourth and final quarter-final place having won two, lost two, tied one and had a no-result in their six matches.
