The Cricketer have announced the top 100 cricketing senior and top 50 junior and prep schools in the country
SUBMIT AN ENTRY FOR THE SCHOOLS GUIDE 2021 HERE
The top 100 cricketing senior and top 50 junior and prep schools have been named in The Cricketer's annual Schools Guide.
It follows an exhaustive process which saw a record number of schools submit entries to be included in the guide.
All entries were judged against an extensive set of criteria, which included a compelling commitment to cricket in their curriculum, facilities, fixture programmes and coaching.
The guide and the full list can be seen below.
The Cricketer magazine editor Simon Hughes said: "The Schools Guide is, as ever, a fantastic publication that celebrates schools cricket and gives deserved praise to all those teachers and coaches who put in the hard work to develop our future club, county and international cricketers. Having watched many schools matches this summer I am pleased to report that the standard of cricket programmes and the level of passion for the game is as high as ever.
"Schools cricket has certainly benefitted from this incredible year for the sport.
"Congratulations to all of the schools included and I look forward to hearing about all of your future successes."
Copies of the guide can be purchased here.

Are any of these schools boarding and near manchester airport?

Great reading and a rather interesting list! Some obvious selections but others somewhat surprising! Due to some of the schools included I therefore thought both Gresham’s & Gresham’s Prep would be on.

Tiffin and Wilson’s are both state schools. Tiffin was the school that Alec Stewart and several other county players studied at.

Tiffin and Wilson’s are both state grammar schools. Tiffin being the school attended by Alec Stewart and Arun Harinath.

With two England players in the last five years in Zafar Ansari and Toby Roland-Jones, and literally hundreds of talented young cricketers introduced to the game, it's a bit difficult to understand why Hampton School are omitted from the top hundred. An oversight perhaps.

Probably no state schools because they are not competitive. My kids are at one of these schools and the head of cricket told me this. They’ve stopped playing some of the public schools because they are just not good enough. These guys don’t just take sport seriously, they are fanatic about it. That’s why they are so good. As for ecb I don’t think our school has anything to do with them. It’s down to the teachers to play cricket, select a team and train, hard.

Nooo State Schools..... This just tells what cricket in england is becoming. Really disappointed with the ecb not offering any help to state schools. Counties need to do more to encourage cricket in state schools or cricket will quickly be a minority sport over the next few years and we will produce lesser talented players. If we dont work with state schools then england will always produce lesser talented players and squads. Hopefully people actually take this into consideration.

Does anyone know how this list is actually formed?!

Is it any wonder that I relinquished my subscription to a journal that is merely an advertising vehicle for independent schools, in the obvious manner of this article and less obviously when one looks at contributors and subjects about which they write. Utter disgrace. No wonder cricket is fast becoming a minority sport.

totally agree that Berkhamsted should be on the list....i think you'll find that they're not on it however is because they don't pay the magazine.
Posted by steven on 22/11/2019 at 11:51
Is this also open to schools in Northern Ireland?
Posted by Julie Pescod on 22/11/2019 at 08:22
Surprised Caterham School is not on this list
Posted by Toby on 21/11/2019 at 23:32
Absolutely ridiculous that Berkhamsted aren’t on this list, they beat a lot of the team on here convincingly last year
