The Cricketer runs through all the details you need to know ahead of the IPL mega-auction, which takes place on December 23
The player auction for the 2023 Indian Premier League, the 16th edition of the league, will be held on December 23, 2022, in Kochi, Kerala.
The IPL added two new teams last season, making it a 10-team event, which will continue into this season.
The ten IPL teams are: Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Lucknow Super Giants, Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Punjab Kings.
According to BCCI, a total of 991 players have registered for the 2023 IPL auction, of which 714 are Indian, while the other 277 are from overseas.
Since this is a mini-auction, most teams will look to fill the gaps in their squad rather than completely remodel their roster. Sunrisers have just a dozen players on board and only four overseas players, leaving them with the biggest purse.

The 991 players that have registered for the auction so far will be reduced before the process begins.
Those who make the final list get placed into three categories – Indian capped, Indian uncapped, and overseas players.
This list is further split based on a player's role in the team, including batters, all-rounders, wicketkeepers, spinners, and fast bowlers.
Hugh Edmeades will return as the auctioneer after he collapsed on the first day of the mega auction last February.
The process sees players enter the auction at a base price and teams take turns submitting offers until no further bids are put forward.
Unsold players can re-enter the draft during the final rounds should the franchises submit a request for their re-submission

The IPL this year will not see Pat Cummins and Alex Hales, who has opted out of this season, while Steve Smith and Marnus Labushagne have also not registered themselves for the IPL.
However, among these, the legendary West Indian and IPL all-rounders Dwayne Bravo and Keiron Pollard have decided to quit their job as players. They have announced their retirement as players but will continue to serve their franchise by being part of the support staff.
Franchises have been given an additional 5 Cr (£494,917) this year to their purses thanks to an increase in broadcast revenue.
Chennai Super Kings – 20.45 CR (£2m)
Delhi Capitals – 19.45 CR (£1.9m)
Gujarat Titans – 19.25 CR (£1.9m)
Kolkata Knight Riders – 7.05 CR (£697K)

Initially, 31 English players had registered for the IPL auction, with 21 capped and 10 uncapped players, though just 25 have made the cut.
Ben Stokes, Sam Curran, Phil Salt, Alex Hales, and others are likely to dominate after their involvement in England's T20 World Cup success in Australia while the likes of Will Smeed and Jordan Thompson will be worth keeping an eye on.
List of all English players registered for the 2023 IPL auction: Tom Banton, Harry Brook, Tom Curran, Sam Curran, George Garton, Richard Gleeson, Will Jacks, Chris Jordan, Dawid Malan, Tymal Mills, Jamie Overton, Craig Overton, David Payne, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Phil Salt, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, Luke Wood, Chris Benjamin, James Fuller, Thomas Helm, Will Smeed, Jordan Thompson.
