After winning eight of their last nine coming into Finals Day, Gloucestershire produced a lacklustre performance in a six-wicket defeat to Surrey
Gloucestershire captain Jack Taylor is confident his side can build on their run to the T20 Blast semi-finals and go all the way in 2021.
The Bristol side's campaign was ended by Surrey in the first 11-over last-four clash of Finals Day.
After only managing 73 for 7 from their allocation, the 2003 winners reached their target with six wickets and eight balls in hand.
Central to a sub-standard display with the bat was a failure to take advantage of the powerplay overs.
They were just 12 for 1 after the 3.2 overs of fielding restrictions and though Ryan Higgins (19) and Benny Howell (21) gave the innings some respectability, Gloucestershire struggled to set an imposing target.
"I don't think there are any excuses," said Taylor. "We all wanted to play and we were excited to get out there but weren't good enough.
"I don't think we summed up the conditions. I only think we needed another 15 runs or so.
Bound by adversity, Gloucestershire's unique dressing room pushing for Finals Day berth
"The guys at the top of the order have done it for us during the whole competition. Surrey bowled well and we couldn't quite get it away.
"Through the middle order we tried to overhit it and actually 85-90 might have been a good score instead of 100 plus."
Taylor's side can, however, reflect on a hugely encouraging campaign. They finished top of the Central Group and won eight of the last nine to reach a first Finals Day for 13 years, a campaign helped by a batch of homegrown players.
"It is disappointing," added Taylor. "To win eight out of the last nine, play some amazing cricket. We've got to take the positives. We're a quality T20 team.
"We may not have turned up today but I'm confident this isn't going to be the end for us. We've got all the tools we need to do that and it is about coming back next year and putting things right."
