India v England: 2nd Test scorecard

England have set a niche statistical record during the ongoing second Test against India in Chennai.

India's 329 in the first innings at the Chepauk did not feature a single extra - no ball, wide, bye, leg bye or other fielding penalties - making it the highest team total in the format without contributions from the bowling side.

The previous record, set by India against Pakistan in Lahore in 1955, had stood for 66 years.

Only four innings in Test history have gone on longer than India’s 95.5 overs in Chennai this weekend without featuring an extra on the scorecard, and not since 1962 had there been an example of an innings of such duration without an extra.

India lost four quick wickets for 29 runs on Sunday morning, with Rishabh Pant remaining unbeaten on 57 at the close of the innings.

England lost Rory Burns without scoring in reply, as the hosts took control of the Test match.
