'Air' Jordan echoes Vettori in taking extraordinary boundary catch in Wellington

Both the catch and Chris Jordan's reaction bore similarities to a stunning grab made by Daniel Vettori at the same venue almost three years ago

Chris Jordan takes a stunning catch in Wellington

Hanging in the air like his basketball namesake Michael, Chris Jordan simply reached up, grabbed the ball one-handed and strolled to join his team-mates in the middle.

This was a remarkable display of athleticism and composure on the boundary's edge. No wonder the unlucky batsman, Colin de Grandhomme, looked a little perplexed.

De Grandhomme, coming in at No. 4 for New Zealand in the T20 international against England in Wellington, had middled the first delivery he faced from Adil Rashid.

For all the world it appeared as though the Kiwi would be off the mark with a six. But no one had accounted for Jordan at long-off.

Jordan hung in the air at mid-off to take the catch

The Sussex man has gained a reputation as having some of the best hands in world cricket, and here he showed it once again, achieving incredible hangtime before plucking the ball from the air.

Both the catch and Jordan's reaction bore tremendous similarities to a stunning grab made at the same venue almost three years ago.

When New Zealand entertained West Indies in the 2015 World Cup, it was former Blackcaps captain Daniel Vettori who was the centre of attention.

Just like Jordan, Vettori casually stuck one arm up above his head to take the catch and celebrated with a nonchalant swagger after getting rid of Marlon Samuels.

They must put something in the Wellington water.
