The South Africa seamer is braced for his maiden outing in the competition - though there remains uncertainty over his participation
Delhi Capitals have replaced Chris Woakes with Anrich Nortje for the upcoming Indian Premier League.
The 26-year-old was scheduled to represent Kolkata Knight Riders in 2019 but was unable to participate due to a shoulder injury.
He replaces England seamer Woakes, who was likely to miss the start of the competition to play for his country in white-ball matches against Australia.
"I am excited to join the Delhi Capitals, a team that was the talk of the tournament last season," said Nortje, whose franchise T20 experience has been restricted to the Mzansi Super League.
"With its exciting mix of experienced and young players and a stellar coaching line up, there is no doubt this is going to be a massive learning experience for me. I am grateful to the Delhi Capitals management for giving me this opportunity."
Despite Nortje's call-up, there remains a degree of uncertainty over the participation of South African players in the IPL, which has been moved to the United Arab Emirates due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Restrictions on international aviation out of South Africa remain in place and has already forced a spate of withdrawals from the Caribbean Premier League.
