West Indian allrounder Dwayne Bravo has been ruled out of the Caribbean Premier League after suffering a finger injury.

The blow, which took place in a practice session on September 2, was initially expected to rule Bravo out of a significant part of the tournament.

Bravo, who has captained Trinbago Knight Riders to three CPL titles, has been replaced as captain for the competition by Kieron Pollard.

Pollard himself only joined the franchise this season, having previously represented Barbados Tridents and St Lucia Stars in the tournament’s first six editions.

Following the injury, Bravo was reported by Trinidad and Tobago Newsday as saying: “The next aim for me is rehab to try to get my fingers moving again, it is going to be a long process. I will back playing competitive cricket in about two months' time.”

Knight Riders director Venky Mysore added: “It’s a very unfortunate injury and Dwayne Bravo will be greatly missed.

“However, we are fortunate to have someone of the calibre of Kieron Pollard to take over the reins from Bravo. His leadership abilities are well proven and, like Bravo, will bring a very aggressive style as captain in TKR’s quest for a third championship in a row.”

Pollard added at the time of the first announcement of Bravo’s injury: “I am standing in the shoes of the entertainer, Dwayne Bravo.

“I have been waiting for a long time to be made a part of this special team and I am happy to finally be here. This year, a couple of new guys like me have been given the opportunity to be a part of this great franchise. We are looking forward to putting in our best and lifting the title once again in 2019.”
