South Africa picked up their first point of the competition as a result of the washout, while West Indies move onto three points from three outings.
The Proteas will need to win a minimum of four of their remaining five games to progress to the knockout phase of the competition. They are next in action against Afghanistan in Cardiff on Saturday.
West Indies will hope the Southampton weather improves by Friday, when they take on England at the Hampshire Bowl.
