When England faced Pakistan in their pre-tournament ODI series in May, Wood caused an injury scare after he struck opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq on the elbow with a sharp delivery
England batting coach Graham Thorpe has suggested that England could turn to the pace of Mark Wood for their game against Pakistan at Trent Bridge on Monday.
The failings of Sarfraz Ahmed’s team were exposed on Friday, with the pace attack of Jason Holder, Andre Russell, Oshane Thomas and Sheldon Cottrell dismissing Pakistan for just 105. The short ball proved particularly potent, with Fakhar Zaman bowled while attempting a pull shot.
“I think it will be discussed, to be honest," Thorpe told Sky Sports of Wood’s possible inclusion. "[West Indies] looked like they roughed Pakistan up. It was interesting viewing.”
Jofra Archer showed his own capability with the short ball in England’s win over South Africa, hitting Hashim Amla on the helmet – a blow that forced the veteran batsman to retire hurt, while also having Faf du Plessis caught at fine leg as he attempted to hook the right-armer.

Wood only managed 3.1 overs in England's warm-up game against Australia before hobbling off with an ankle niggle.
When England faced Pakistan in their pre-tournament ODI series in May, Wood caused an injury scare after he struck opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq on the elbow with a sharp delivery.
An X-ray revealed no serious damage but highlighted a potential frailty for England to exploit. Thorpe, however, does not believe the previous contests between the sides holds any relevance.
"The games that we played against Pakistan are irrelevant in that series which has gone," he added.
"We know them, but we also know how close those games were, so whether it makes them more dangerous or not I think they're a dangerous side anyway."
