Stafanie Taylor will captain West Indies at the Women's World Cup, which begins next month.

The allrounder skippered her country in the recent series defeat against South Africa but suffered a concussion in the third ODI, with Anisa Mohammed taking the reins in her absence for the deciding match.

Mohammed, one short of 300 international wickets and primed for a fifth World Cup, has been named as Taylor's deputy for the tournament.

As well as the experienced duo – and Deandra Dottin, who did not bowl against South Africa but smashed an unbeaten 150 in the series opener – five players could make their World Cup debuts.

Karishma Ramharack, Aaliyah Alleyne, Cherry Ann Fraser, Chinelle Henry and Rashada Williams are all appearing at the competition for the first time. Ramharack is one of four specialist off-spinners named in the squad.

"The squad selected shows a blend of youth and experience," explained lead selector Ann Browne-John. "The team just completed a series against South Africa where the players got good preparation before the tournament.

"There were some relatively good showings with a few players having outstanding performances and it is expected that they would raise their levels even further during the competition."

Browne-John also highlighted the selection of leg-spinner Afy Fletcher, who returned to international action in Johannesburg after a yearlong maternity leave.

Kaysia Schultz, Mandy Mangru and Jannilea Glasgow have been selected as travelling reserves.
