Scotland's Kathryn Bryce opens up on potential England switch

Charlotte Edwards Cup winner Bryce was asked whether she'd considered following in Kirstie Gordon's footsteps and switching to England

Fresh from lifting the Charlotte Edwards Cup with The Blaze, Kathryn Bryce was in the hotseat on the latest episode of Under The Lid.

All-rounder Bryce - who will go to the Women’s T20 World Cup with Scotland in October - won the Professional Cricketer's Association MVP for her performance this season for The Blaze, which includes a cheque for £2,500.

But England legend Kathrine Sciver-Brunt had just one question for the Scottish superstar on Episode 13 - would she follow in the footsteps of fellow Scot Kirstie Gordon and switch to England?

"While we're talking about Kirstie, let's get a bit controversial. She obviously changed from playing for Scotland to playing for England," said Sciver-Brunt.

Responding, Bryce said: "I guess it's something that always crossed your mind, especially growing up, that was the only pathway that you saw of being professional, was playing for England."

Times, however, have changed. While Bryce could still switch to reap the rewards of playing for an ICC Full Member side, it wasn't necessarily a path she needed to go down.

She added: "I think we were kind of fortunate in a way to be just after that [Scotland Women were granted Full ODI status in 2022] where we could then play regional cricket, and we could play in the Super League whilst also playing for Scotland.

"When Kirstie first made the decision to stop playing for Scotland, it was so that she could play in the Kia Super League, and then off the back of doing really well she got selected for the World Cup in the West Indies."

She added: "It's still there, as a possibility, but I think and it's pretty special to be able to still play for Scotland and also be a professional cricket cricketer at the same time. I don't know if my mum thinks it’s a real job yet!"

As well as answering questions about her international future, Bryce covered playing alongside her sister Sarah, "being Katherine Sciver-Brunt" in her granny's garden and playing for Gujarat Giants in the IPL.
