Kent sign Kirstie Gordon after England spinner misses out on T20 World Cup squad

England left-arm spinner Kirstie Gordon has joined Kent Women for the 2020 season.

The Scotland-born bowler, who made her England debut in 2018 against Bangladesh, has represented Nottinghamshire Women since 2016.

In last season’s County Championship, she took six wickets in five games, as well as picking up eight scalps in four National T20 matches.

A key part of Loughborough Lightning’s bowling attack in the Kia Super League during the last two campaigns, she took 37 wickets in 25 games in the competition.

However, she was left out of England’s 15-strong party for the T20 World Cup, having been the only player on the tour of Malaysia, where England faced Pakistan, not to play at any stage.

She joins former England international Susie Rowe, who re-joined the county earlier this month, having previously retired from cricket.

Gordon, who featured at Taunton in England’s Ashes Test draw with Australia in 2019, said: “I’ve played with a few of the girls before and they all talk so highly of Kent and the facilities here.

“When the opportunity came to play in a women’s side with so much past success in the Championship and in T20 cricket, it was an easy decision to make at this stage in my career.

“I’d like to thank everyone at Notts for everything they’ve done for me and I’m looking forward to starting a new chapter as a Kent Women player.”

“She has consistently taken wickets, especially in T20 cricket, across all levels of the game and her efforts so far in England colours have shown what an exciting young spinner she is.”
