Jon Lewis replaces Salliann Beams as head coach of Trent Rockets women

Beams, who had coached the side in 2021 and 2022, has opted not to return for a third campaign but a familiar face will aim to build on last season's third-place finish

Trent Rockets women will be led by Jon Lewis after Salliann Beams opted not to return for a third campaign of The Hundred.

Rockets were beaten in last summer's Eliminator by Southern Brave, having finished seventh in the inaugural season.

Lewis was part of the backroom team and is making the step up to head coach.

A former Essex and Durham batter who scored over 15,000 career runs, the 52-year-old has held several coaching roles since calling time on his playing career.

After a stint standing in for Geoff Cook, he led Durham on a permanent basis between 2013 and 2018, winning the Royal London Cup in 2014.

He served separately as assistant coach and batting consultant during Lisa Keightley's spell as England women's head coach.

England, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh men have also benefitted from Lewis' knowledge in recent years.

More recently, he was among the candidates to succeed Keightley after she stood down last autumn but eventually lost out to his namesake - the ex-Gloucestshire, Surrey and Sussex seamer.

"The opportunity to step up as head coach is a huge honour, building on the foundations that have been laid over the past two years," said Lewis.

"The competition is hugely exciting because it is giving the women’s game a brilliant platform and players a bigger stage on which to showcase their skills."
