Should Meg Lanning, currently taking an indefinite break from the sport, vacate the role then the Brisbane Heat skipper would happily step into the breach
Succeeding Meg Lanning as Australia captain would be a "massive role", admits Jess Jonassen, but she would welcome the responsibility if it came her way.
Lanning is currently taking an indefinite break from cricket, missing the upcoming eighth edition of the Big Bash League.
Jonassen has captained Brisbane Heat and Queensland since 2020 and is among the senior figures in an Australia team that scooped the Ashes, the 50-over World Cup and Commonwealth Games gold in 2022.
Across an international career lasting more than 10 years, the 29-year-old has played four Tests, 85 one-day internationals and 94 T20Is, taking 224 wickets.

"It would be a massive role and some big shoes to fill for whoever it is," she said.
"I have tried to take on a leadership role the last couple of years with the spinning group.
"If I was considered for or given the nod for it then it would be a huge honour and a huge privilege.
"It would be something I would seriously have to think about. There are some really good candidates like Tahlia McGrath, and Alyssa Healy has put her hand up as well."
Australia women are back in action in January with back-to-back T20I and one-day international series against Pakistan.
