Sunrisers have announced seven of their professionally contracted players for the 2023 season, including the signing of Eva Gray from South East Stars.

In last season's Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, Gray, 22, picked up nine wickets in seven outings. She added a further eight wickets for Oval Invincibles in The Hundred and maintained a team-leading economy of 5.94.

This is her first professional contract.

"I'm buzzing to be joining a really exciting group at the Sunrisers and am delighted that they have shown faith in awarding me my first professional contract," she said.

"It is a great time to be involved at the club – I can't wait to build on our potential and see where we can go as a team over the winter and into next season."

Amara Carr, Kelly Castle, Jo Gardner, Cordelia Griffith and Grace Scrivens penned contract extensions while Mady Villiers, who lost her England central contract earlier in November, has signed her first professional domestic contract.

Three further contracts will be confirmed ahead of February 2023. As a result of a £3.5m funding increase from the ECB, each region will have 10 ECB-funded professional players from next season – excluding centrally contracted players.

Regional director of women's cricket, Danni Warren, said: "We are thrilled that these six high-quality cricketers have committed their futures to Sunrisers, as they have all been a significant part of the club since we started.

"I'm really pleased with the journey that this group has been on over the past few months, and these girls will continue to drive us forward into the right direction.

"Grace had an outstanding summer last year and she'll be wanting to kick on from that and do even better, so it's exciting to see how far she can go. Mady also had a great season with the ball, and has the determination to prove her point and get back into the England setup.

"Amara and Cordelia struggled with injuries, but when they were fit they were excellent for us and they'll be working hard in the winter, whilst Kelly and Jo have been model professionals throughout their time with us and are key parts of this group, both on and off the field.

"We're looking at one or two additions to the group to supplement what we already have, which we believe will help us to become a successful team in the near future."
