Southern Vipers have awarded seven professional contracts ahead of the 2023 season.

Emily Windsor and Ella McCaughan are added to the roster after impressing last summer.

Linsey Smith has picked up a deal after returning to Vipers following spells with Loughborough Lightning and Northern Diamonds.

Georgia Elwiss has been handed a contract after dropping off the England list for the 2022-23 cycle.

Captain Georgia Adams, Maia Bouchier and Anya Shrubsole remain on pro terms, while Tara Norris (Thunder) and Paige Scholfield (South East Stars) have moved on.

All players will remain at The Ageas Bowl-based side until at least the end of the 2024 campaign.

Last week saw Lauren Bell, Charlie Dean and Freya Kemp all given England contracts, with Danni Wyatt retaining her deal.

Additionally, Carla Rudd, Charlotte Taylor, Alice Monaghan, Nancy Harman, Finty Trussler, Chloe Hill, and Rhianna Southby have all been awarded winter retainer contracts.

Hill has made her move from Central Sparks permanent after a loan during last season.

Adams' side continued their dominance of the women's game by winning the Charlotte Edwards Cup - named after their head coach - and reaching the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy final for the third straight year.

The news comes after the England and Wales Cricket Board announced a £3.5 million funding increase for professional women's domestic cricket.

The commitment will see the number of professional women's domestic cricketers climb to 80 in time for the start of the 2023 season.

Regional Director of Women's Cricket Adam Carty said: "The sad news of two departures in Paige Scholfield and Tara Norris was countered by the excellent and very exciting news of us retaining the expertise of three club champions, captain Georgia Adams, Maia Bouchier, and recent addition Anya Shrubsole who will undertake a role of player/coach.

"In Georgia, Maia & Anya we have retained the spine of our club and in them, supported by an exciting and progressive retainer group of players, we are well placed to remain competitive for 2023 in the hope of further successes alongside the development of outstanding new talent."
