Brisbane Heat sign Amelia Kerr for Women's Big Bash

Kerr was named as New Zealand's female ODI player of the year in April, having impressed at the World Cup

Brisbane Heat have re-signed Amelia Kerr for the next edition of the Women's Big Bash.

The New Zealand allrounder, 21, took a break from the game last year to deal with anxiety and focus on her mental health.

But she has since resumed playing; her record for Heat, for whom she first played in 2019, stands at 31 wickets and 204 runs in 30 matches.

Kerr was named as New Zealand's female ODI player of the year in April, having impressed at the World Cup, where she scored 201 runs and picked up nine wickets in seven appearances.

"We were so pleased to see Melie back smiling and enjoying cricket again and are really looking forward to having her join us for the WBBL," said Ashley Noffke, Heat's head coach.

"Her batting during the World Cup was impressive in spite of some challenging conditions and it will be great to see her continue to develop her skills further."

Kerr has signed up to represent London Spirit in the second edition of The Hundred, while she is also set to be involved in New Zealand's Commonwealth Games campaign.

"I kept an eye on how they went last year and so I’m looking forward to coming back to Brisbane and having some fun with the Heat girls," she added.

Heat made the semi-finals last season only to be knocked out by Adelaide Strikers.
