Abtaha Maqsood signs professional contract with Sunrisers

The Scotland international took six wickets in 10 appearances across the Charlotte Edwards Cup and Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy

Abtaha Maqsood has signed a professional contract with Sunrisers for the 2023 season.

The 23-year-old Scotland international is making a name for herself on the domestic stage after picking up six wickets for Sunrisers in 2022 as well as representing Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred.

Since making her international debut in 2018, she has picked up 35 wickets in 33 appearances and boasts an impressive economy of 5.34.

Commenting on signing her first professional contract, Maqsood said: "I am thrilled to have signed my first ever full-time professional contract with Sunrisers. I absolutely loved playing with the team this summer and making lifelong friends.

"I learned so much by being around the professional environment and can't wait to get going again this winter.

"I'm also very excited to have Andy on board who I have always enjoyed working with back in Scotland and wish him all the best in his new role."

Head coach Andy Tennant, said: "It has been a privilege to watch Abtaha develop in Scotland from a shy and talented young spin bowler into the outstanding cricketer and person she is now.

"I look forward to working more closely now with Abs in a full-time professional environment, to support her in taking her game to the next level."

Sunrisers have also recruited Eva Gray from South East Stars while Amara Carr, Kelly Castle, Jo Gardner, Grace Scrivens, Mady Villiers and Cordelia Griffith have signed contract extensions.
