Ellyse Perry is still a doubt for Australia's World Cup semi-final clash with West Indies on Wednesday.

The allrounder suffered back spasms that forced her from the field during her country's group stage win over South Africa, having bowled just three overs.

Perry hasn't been able to train since but remains hopeful of proving her fitness in time to feature in Wellington, with Australia just two wins away from the trophy.

"Each day we've assessed it, seen where it's at, and it definitely has been improving, which is really nice," she said.

"It's going really well, but obviously just need to make sure that I'm in the best possible spot to be able to contribute, if I was to play. We'll do a couple more things at training in the next few days. And if I get there, I do. Fingers crossed."

Perry starred in the group fixture against Stafanie Taylor's side, claiming three wickets – including those of Deandra Dottin and Hayle Matthews – in a comprehensive win.

She has also looked in good touch with the bat, peaking with a half century against New Zealand after Australia had briefly been under pressure.

It would be cruel were the injury to rule her out of the remainder of the tournament, having missed the latter end of Australia's T20 World Cup triumph in 2020 due to a hamstring injury.
