What is it?

A three-match ODI series as part of the 2023 Women's Ashes.

What's the schedule?

July 12: 1st ODI – County Ground, Bristol (1pm local time)

July 16: 2nd ODI – Ageas Bowl, Southampton (11am local time)

July 18: 3rd ODI – County Ground, Taunton (1pm local time)

What's the format of the Women's Ashes?

Unlike the Men's Ashes, this is a multi-format series, consisting of one Test, three ODIs and three T20Is.

Points are awarded for each victory, with the team with the most points at the end lifting the trophy.

Four points are awarded for winning the Test match while white-ball victories are worth two points each.

Australia have held the Women's Ashes since 2015.

What's happened so far?

The Women's Ashes began with a five-day Test match at Trent Bridge, which Australia won by 89 runs to take a 4-0 lead.

Tammy Beaumont became the first English woman to score 200 runs in a Test match while Sophie Ecclestone (England) and Ash Gardner (Australia) dominated with the ball, taking 10 and 12 wickets apiece.

England then suffered an agonising four-wicket defeat at Edgbaston in the first T20I – Georgia Wareham hitting the winning run off the penultimate delivery – before bouncing back with successive wins at The Oval (three runs) and Lord's (five wickets) to narrow Australia's lead to 6-4.

England cannot afford to lose any of the three ODIs if they wish to regain the Women's Ashes but haven't beaten Australia in the format since October 2017, with their most recent meeting – the 2022 Women's World Cup final – ending in a 71-run defeat.

Who's involved?

Lauren Filer and Tammy Beaumont come back into the fold after missing the T20I series, with Maia Bouchier, Freya Davies, and Lauren Winfield-Hill dropping out.

However, Alice Davidson-Richards or Emma Lamb have not been recalled, with the latter's absence meaning Beaumont will require a new opening partner, a role Danni Wyatt could, perhaps, fill.

Dani Gibson, who made her international debut during the T20I series, has received her maiden call-up to the ODI squad.

Heather Knight will captain England once again, with Nat Sciver-Brunt as her deputy.

Australia named the same 14-strong squad for all three formats, although there are a number of changes from the group which lifted the 50-over World Cup in New Zealand in 2022.

Meg Lanning (medical reasons), Rachael Haynes (retired), Nicola Carey, Heather Graham and Amanda-Jade Wellington are out, with Kim Garth, Phoebe Litchfield and Wareham coming in.

In Lanning's absence, Alyssa Healy is captaining Australia, with Tahlia McGrath serving as her deputy.

England squad: Heather Knight (c), Tammy Beaumont, Lauren Bell, Alice Capsey, Kate Cross, Charlie Dean, Sophia Dunkley, Sophie Ecclestone, Lauren Filer, Dani Gibson, Sarah Glenn, Amy Jones, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Issy Wong, Danni Wyatt

Australia squad: Alyssa Healy, Tahlia McGrath, Darcie Brown, Ashleigh Gardner, Kim Garth, Grace Harris, Jess Jonassen, Alana King, Phoebe Litchfield, Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt, Annabel Sutherland, Georgia Wareham

What's the weather forecast?

Morning rain could delay proceedings in Bristol, with scattered showers possible in the afternoon. Similar conditions are expected in Southampton and Taunton.

What are the odds?

Australia remain the favourites, with an Australian victory in the first ODI available at 4/7. An England win is available at 6/4.

Where to watch?

All three T20Is will be live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Cricket while ball-by-ball commentary will be available on Test Match Special.

In Australia, the Women's Ashes will be live on Fox Cricket as well as available to stream on Kayo and 9 Now.
