Brathwaite admitted the series might have been the best of his career after he achieved his fist home victory as captain and was named player of the series for his runs
Kraigg Brathwaite believes victory against England is "just a start" for his West Indies team.
Brathwaite admitted the series might have been the best of his career after he achieved his fist home victory as captain and was named player of the series for his runs.
But he took particular delight in the success of several of the less experienced players in the team which, he felt, suggested reasons for optimism ahead.
Twenty-year-old Jayden Seales finished as the equal leading wicket-taker, for example, while 23-year-old Josh da Silva claimed the player of the match award in Grenada for his excellent century. Kyle Mayers also celebrated his return to the side with seven wickets in the Grenada Test, while Alzarri Jospeh bowled with sharp pace throughout.
"I believe this is just the start," Brathwaite said. "But we can't become complacent. We have got to keep learning, keep improving. That is one thing with the youngsters in the team – Joshua, Jayden, Alzarri – they are willing to listen. That is the only way to get better.

"Jason Holder, Kemar Roach and Jermaine Blackwood are really leading the way, but the [less experienced] guys learned a lot on the job. I think it's the start and we have to continue to work hard.
"We can learn a lot from this series. At different periods we had to fight as batsmen. We had to spend time at the crease and stay tight. We had to have the right attitude throughout every day.
"On Saturday, Jayden, Kemar and Joshua really led the way and showed we can fight. And then Mayers was extremely remarkable. We could have caved and given up when we didn't have much of a lead. We had to keep the attitude, once we do that we will do well.
"I'm very proud. It's my first home series win, so I'm very happy."
Victory was especially satisfying as Brathwaite finished the series as top run-scorer. His century in Barbados, in particular, went a long way towards West Indies securing a draw in the match.
"England put a lot of runs on the board and we had to bat well to keep ourselves in the game," he said. "As a captain, I'm very happy to lead the way and do that in a hard fought draw. Obviously Da Silva and Mayers have been remarkable here in Grenada.

"It felt really good to hit the winning runs in Grenada. It's close to being my best series, to be honest and it very well may be. As a three match series it was one of my best. I'm very happy that as a team we came out on top."
Brathwaite also had praise for the people of Grenada who came out in force to support the side over recent days. For the first time in the series, local support outnumbers the traveling contingent and celebrations continued long after the teams had departed.
"It was remarkable to see how many Grenadians came out to support us so I just want to say thank you to them," he said. "It was a very, very good series for us. In two hard-fought draws in the first two games. I thought England played extremely well and we had to show some fight in the last days of both of those games. But coming here, we ramped it up. It's been a remarkable effort.
"The crowds in Barbados and Antigua weren't bad but the Grenada fans really came out. They don't get much cricket here so it'll be nice to see one or two more matches out here."
