Winston Benjamin, the former West Indies fast bowler, will help Scotland men prepare for the 2023 World Cup qualifier during a pre-tournament training camp next month.

A 16-strong group heads to Antigua from April 1-12 ahead of the 10-team qualifying tournament in Zimbabwe in June.

Doug Watson, the new interim head coach, will join the setup on April 8.

Benjamin played 21 Tests and 85 ODIs for the Windies between 1986 and 1996, taking 161 wickets across formats.

Since hanging up his bowling boots, the 58-year-old has coached with the Leeward Islands Hurricanes and Antigua while also working closely with the likes of Alzarri Joseph.

"I'm very excited to work with the Scotland team during their camp here in Antigua," said Benjamin. "As a coach, it is important to be able to work with players from different backgrounds.

"It's a chance for me to not only teach them a thing or two about our conditions but also expand my own knowledge base and experience.

"As a part of the camp, young Antiguans will get an opportunity to play against international grade opposition as well, so it's a win-win situation in my eyes."

The training camp aims to prepare Scotland's players for the 2023 50-over World Cup qualifier, which offers two places in the main tournament scheduled for October and November in India.

Netherlands, West Indies, Zimbabwe, Nepal and Oman are also confirmed to compete, with two berths still to be decided.

Eight of the Scotland group will remain in the Caribbean for the Cool and Smooth T20, an eight-team tournament showcasing emerging regional and international talent.

Captain Richie Berrington and vice-skipper Matthew Cross are among those confirmed to appear.
