Amelia Kerr has withdrawn from the 2021 Women’s Big Bash League in order to prioritise her mental health and well-being.
The 20-year-old allrounder recently withdrew from New Zealand’s white-ball tour of England for the same reasons and has informed Brisbane Heat she is not yet ready to return to cricket.
Kerr has represented the Heat since 2019, scoring 204 runs and taking 31 wickets in 30 appearances. She was also a member of the WBBL 05-winning side and signed a new two-year deal with the club last summer.
Brisbane Heat coach, Ashley Noffke, said: "We have been in regular contract with Melie, her family and wider support network and fully understand and support the decision she has made.

"She has been honest and brave with her decisions and the Heat will be ready and willing to assist her in the future, whether for a return to playing or simply what is best for her."
Kerr added: "I am very grateful for the Heat’s support. I am making really good progress and want to keep that going. It’s a tough decision as I love representing the Brisbane Heat and can’t speak highly enough of the support team and players.
"I will be following the tournament with great interest and cheering the team on from New Zealand."
Heat are currently in the process of sourcing her replacement.
