Yorkshire skittled for lowest T20 score in 10-wicket defeat at Birmingham Bears

Henry Brookes, the Warwickshire seamer, has been ruled out of the rest of the season.

The 21-year-old has not represented the senior team since the end of the 2020 campaign.

Despite making sporadic appearances for the second XI, Brookes has been unavailable for first-team selection in 2021.

He will undergo surgery on a left quad tendon tear in the coming days, ruling him out for three months.

As well as missing the remainder of Warwickshire's campaign and Birmingham Bears' T20 Blast season he will also be absent for the inaugural season of The Hundred with Birmingham Phoenix.

News of Brookes' absence comes alongside confirmation he has signed a new three-year deal, keeping him at Edgbaston until 2024.

In 19 first-class matches, a dozen List A outings and 24 T20s Brookes has taken 103 wickets and scored 959 runs.

"Whilst the injury situation is naturally frustrating, we’re building nicely as a team and I’ll come back from this setback stronger," he said.

"I hope that I can play a big part in bringing silverware to Edgbaston in the years ahead."

Director of cricket Paul Farbrace added: "Henry has the opportunity to be a leader of the Bears attack for many years to come.

"Unfortunately, the upcoming surgery on his injured quad is sadly going to mean that he plays no further part in our 2021 campaign.

"However, Henry has an excellent character and he will come back stronger from this experience, ready to play a big role in 2022 and beyond."
