One-Day Cup 2024 roundup: Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Glamorgan stay unbeaten

The Cricketer wraps up the best of the action from the latest round of matches in the 2024 Metro Bank One-Day Cup

Group A

Derby: Derbyshire 260, Worcestershire 261-2 - Worcestershire win by eight wickets

A superb career-best List A unbeaten century from Gareth Roderick led Worcestershire to an eight-wicket victory over Derbyshire in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup match at Derby.

Roderick scored 152 from 139 balls and shared an unbroken third wicket stand of 161 from 153 with skipper Jake Libby who made 71 not out to take the visitors to 261 for 2 and a third Group A victory.

Worcestershire's 18-year-old fast bowler Jack Home also played a crucial part by taking his best figures of 6 for 51 in only his third senior game to bowl Derbyshire out for 260.

Harry Came scored 71 but the hosts collapsed from 110 for 1 to 192 for 8 before Zak Chappell with 48 from 33 balls and Daryn Dupavillon added 63 from 45 balls.

Chester-le-Street: Northamptonshire 260, Durham 261-6 - Durham win by four wickets

Colin Ackermann made his first List A century for Durham to help his side beat Northamptonshire Steelbacks by four wickets in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup match at the Riverside.

Ackermann made 108 as the home team overhauled the Steelbacks' 260 with 11 balls to spare, an outcome that had not looked likely when visiting opener Prithvi Shaw was making a 71-ball 97 and Northamptonshire were 144 for 1 after 21 overs.

But Durham's spinners throttled the run rate to set up their side's second victory in this season's competition.

Northamptonshire, however, have now lost their first four matches and must win the next four to have a hope of qualifying for the knockout stages.

Taunton: Lancashire 218, Somerset 220-2 - Somerset won by eight wickets

Kasey Aldridge recorded career-best figures of 6 for 33 and George Thomas a maiden List A century as Somerset made it three wins from four Group A games with an eight-wicket victory over Lancashire at the Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton.

The visitors could post only 218 all out after losing the toss, Australian all-rounder Chris Green hitting 65 off 68 balls and opener George Bell 56 off 81. Tall seamer Aldridge was not introduced into the Somerset attack until the second half of the innings and took his wickets from 7.1 overs.

In reply, the hosts raced to 220 for two off 40.5 overs, Thomas leading the way with an unbeaten 106 off 142 deliveries, with 14 fours and two sixes.

James Rew contributed 60 not out and Lewis Goldsworthy 38 to inflict Lancashire's fourth defeat in as many group matches.

Group B

Neath: Sussex 200, Glamorgan 203-9 - Glamorgan win by one wicket

Glamorgan kept their perfect record in this year's Metro Bank One-Day Cup intact thanks to a remarkable one-wicket win over Sussex Sharks at the Gnoll in Neath.

Sussex had reached a total of 200 all out thanks to a brilliant eighth-wicket stand between Archie Lenham and Bertie Foreman, and the two youngsters were also remarkable in tandem with the ball as Sussex came so close to claiming a thrilling win.

Glamorgan's chase had started brightly but a top order collapse brought Sussex back into this match. Eddie Byrom made the highest score of the match with his 51 and Billy Root made 48 batting with the tail. But it was the last-wicket pair of Andy Gorvin and Jamie McIlroy who took them home.

Glamorgan now sit at the top of Group B with four wins out of four and Sussex remain winless in this year's tournament having lost by one wicket for the second time this season.

Rugby: Warwickshire 311-9, Surrey 308-9 - Warwickshire win by three runs

Warwickshire retained their 100 per cent record in the Metro Bank One Day Cup as they beat a heavily depleted Surrey side by three runs in a thriller at Rugby School.

Chris Benjamin's cleanly-hit 75 and Michael Burgess' classy 60 offered high entertainment to a 2,500 crowd in the delightful, sylvan setting as they lifted the home side to 311 for 9. James Taylor (3 for 43) and Cameron Steel (3 for 58) led the bowling for a Surrey side missing 15 players on England or Hundred duty.

Surrey's reply fell just short at 308 for 9 despite a brilliant List A-best 149 by Dom Sibley against his former teammates. Sibley struck 12 fours and four sixes but only Ben Geddes (62) offered significant support as Surrey sustained a fourth successive defeat and Warwickshire harvested a fourth successive victory.

York: Gloucestershire 251-9, Yorkshire 215 - Gloucestershire win by 36 runs

Ollie Price's watchful 98 off 118 balls plus a feverish bowling display led by three-wicket quick Matt Taylor led Gloucestershire to an entertaining win over Yorkshire at York as they successfully defended a 252-target to triumph by 36 runs.

Price had underpinned Gloucestershire's 251 for 9, while opener Miles Hammond leant support with 54. But the visitors added only 85 runs in a damaging final 15 overs which saw seven wickets fall.

The Vikings responded on a challenging batting pitch, with new ball seamer Ben Coad (2 for 27 from 10 overs) particularly impressive as one of four bowlers who struck twice.

Shan Masood and James Wharton hit 76 and 56 respectively to leave Yorkshire well placed, but they slumped from 137 for 2 to 215 all out inside 48 overs. Excellent new-ball left-armer Taylor finished with 3 for 35 off 10. Both counties have now won two, lost two in Group B.
