What's the match?

Welsh Fire host Northern Superchargers in the latest game of the women's Hundred in 2022.

When is it taking place?

The match is scheduled to start at 3.30pm BST on Friday, August 26.

Where is the match being played?

Cardiff's Sophia Gardens is the venue, with this match the first slice of a doubleheader that precedes the men's fixture between the same teams.

Who's got the form?

Welsh Fire have continued from what was a wretched 2021 campaign by losing all four of their group matches this season.

They are already unable to qualify for the knock-out stage and have two games remaining to ensure they don't finish the season winless.

They can at least take heart from the men's team is in a similar position, having been unable to prevail in any of their six matches.

Northern Superchargers have been wildly inconsistent, winning two and losing two of their four games.

Last time out they overcame local rivals Manchester Originals at Headingley, winning by seven wickets after chasing down 161 to win with a ball to spare.

They must almost certainly win their final two group matches against Fire and the already-qualified Southern Brave to stand any chance of progressing to the Eliminator.

What's the team news?

Rachael Haynes sat out the defeat to London Spirit and Welsh Fire will be hoping she is able to return.

Fire will have to choose which of Annabel Sutherland, Nicola Carey and Maddy Green drops out if the Australia batter is able to return.

The Superchargers have Gaby Lewis waiting in the wings as Jemimah Rodrigues' replacement. Changes could come in the spin department, with Katie Levick, Linsey Smith and Lucy Hingham available.

What's the key match-up?

Alex Hartley has been a rare positive for Welsh Fire in a bowling attack which has been punished at times during their opening four games.

The former England spinner has been economical, going at 5.92 runs-a-set and has taken three wickets in four matches.

There will be a temptation for captain Tammy Beaumont to deploy her as early as possible again, having used her in the powerplay in each of the four matches.

She even took the first set against London Spirit, shipping just seven runs against Beth Mooney and Danielle Gibson.

The Superchargers' top two of Alyssa Healy and Laura Wolvaardt are among the most intimidating in the world so it will be an intriguing battle between the left-arm spinner and two right-handed batters looking to take advantage of the fielding restrictions.

Wolvaardt struck the second-highest score of the 2022 women's competition last time out, hitting an unbeaten 90 against Manchester Originals, during which she battled with another left-armer in Sophie Ecclestone.

Just two of the 11 deliveries from Ecclestone to the South African went to the boundary, as she produced a good length and pinned back the opener.

Can I get tickets?

What's the weather forecast?

An overcast afternoon is expected in Cardiff but there are no fears of any inclement weather, with temperatures around 19 degrees Celsius.
